Starting therapy can feel overwhelming and daunting at the best of times. Whether you've been in therapy for years or it's a new experience, there are so many things to consider: Do I want to see my therapist face-to-face? Talk on the phone? Video call? Do I need my counselor to travel to me? Or maybe it's the type of therapy that's important to you: person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, play therapy. How do you know what's the best fit for you?
At Haven Therapy, we make it as simple as possible to access therapy, tailoring our therapeutic approaches to each individual. We create relaxed and comfortable therapeutic spaces for our clients. Sometimes this means jumping in the car to visit some of our older clients who can't get to our Maitland clinic, or it might involve sitting on a comfy bean bag engaging in creative therapies with our littlest clients. Hey, we even have the occasional upside-down therapy session with kids doing handstands and cartwheels—whatever helps create a safe and comfortable space for self-expression!
We've got all sorts of options: online sessions, home visits (great for kiddos who need that extra TLC), and therapy in beautiful spots like beaches or parks. We're here to make your journey as flexible and enriching as possible.
But it's not just about where we meet—it's about how we approach therapy. We're all about getting creative. Whether it's using techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy or dialectical behavior therapy, or getting artsy with art therapy interventions and play therapy techniques, we're dedicated to finding what clicks for you.
Hello there, I'm Kasey, the heart and soul behind Haven Therapy. With a Master's in Counseling and a Bachelor's in Psychological Science, I've dedicated my life to helping others navigate their paths to healing. My journey into therapy began with a simple yet profound belief: everyone deserves the chance to explore their inner world and find peace within it. While I welcome clients from all walks of life, there's something uniquely rewarding about connecting with children, adolescents, and the elderly. Outside the therapy room, you'll often find me basking in nature's embrace or losing myself in the world of art and music—passions that fuel my practice. Having walked the path of neurodivergence and ADHD myself, I bring a depth of understanding and empathy to my work, striving to harness these experiences to support others in their own journeys. Guided by a philosophy of person-centered care, I seek to create a space where creativity thrives and healing unfolds naturally. Over the years, my work in community services has enriched my perspective, allowing me to stand in solidarity with individuals facing various challenges, from homelessness to trauma. I'm here to walk alongside you, to listen without judgment, and to support you in discovering the strength and resilience within you. Welcome to Haven Therapy, where your story is honored, and your journey to healing begins.
As a registered counsellor holding a Master's in Counselling and a Bachelor's in Psychological Science, I bring a wealth of expertise and passion to my practice. My journey is guided by a deep-rooted commitment to supporting the well-being of individuals, particularly children and adolescents. With specialized experience in trauma and a profound appreciation for creativity and nature, I believe in crafting therapeutic experiences that resonate on a personal level. At Haven Therapy, our mission is to provide person-centered counselling in a space that feels comfortable and adaptive to each client's unique circumstances. Whether it's via video link, telephone, or face-to-face sessions in the comfort of your own home, we're dedicated to meeting you where you are. Additionally, we offer face-to-face sessions in local parks and other serene spaces, blending the healing power of nature with therapeutic exploration. Our services extend across Maitland, Cessnock, and Newcastle LGA for face-to-face appointments, while our telephone and video link counselling services are available Australia-wide. Your healing journey is personal, and at Haven Therapy, we're here to walk alongside you every step of the way.

At Haven Therapy, inclusivity isn't just a buzzword—it's the cornerstone of everything we do and we will go above and beyond to support our NDIS participants with showcasing their strengths through a range of theraputic approaches that are tailored to bring out the best in our clients.
At Haven Therapy we are incredibly passionate about working with children to help them to process and learn about their emotions and experiences in a safe, warm and engaging space.
Actually one of the biggest driving forces that led me in to my private practice journey was my own experience in the cold and clinical nature of traditional therapy office with its dull walls, basic lounge and a box of tissues. I remember thinking how on earth can we as therapists expect children to ever be comfortable enough with us to explore their most vulnerable thoughts and emotions in a space that is so cold?
I have created my own personal therapy space with this question at the very front of mind. We have a childrens play kitchen to encourage creative expression through play. A colouring station where the kids can express themselves with drawing, colouring, strengths gardens, emotional thermometers, strengths cards or anything else creative they are drawn too. A range of reading materials including theraputic books on themes such as anger, anxiety etc. Anything creative and fun when working with my younger clients really fills my cup.
My venture of working with children didnt stop at creating a space where they felt welcomed and accepted. I decided to tailor my entire theraputic tool kit to be user friendly and engaging for this particular client group. If you look at your traditional therapy worksheets you may have noticed they are your typical black and white resources, lots of words and really pretty boring. I have redesigned each and every resource i had in my tool kit to not only be bright coloured with engaging and fun imagery but also to use language that is relatable to children and what they might be experiencing.
But i didnt stop there i went as far to publish these resources in a number of ebooks that are available on my website for purchase. Check them out below!
